Introduction

Welcome to PCM Drop. This Privacy Policy explains what information is and is not handled when you use pcmdrop.com, including the PCM player and converter, the audio converter, and the tone generator. All of our tools run entirely in your web browser, so the answer for your audio is simple: we never receive it. The rest of this page covers the few things that do leave your device, such as anonymous usage statistics and advertising.

Your Audio Files

We do not collect, upload, store, or have any access to your audio files. Loading, decoding, playback, waveform display, and conversion to MP3, WAV, OGG, or WebM all happen inside your browser on your own device. Tones from the tone generator are synthesized locally as well. Your files are never sent to our servers or to any third party, and they are not kept after you close or reload the page.

File names are not sent to us either. Our analytics record that an action happened, for example that playback started, but never what the file was called or what it contained.

Information Stored on Your Device

PCM Drop uses your browser's Local Storage to remember two preferences:

  • Audio format settings: the sample rate, bit depth, and channel settings you last chose in the PCM player, so you do not have to set them again on your next visit.
  • Language: the interface language you selected.

The site also installs a service worker that caches the application's own code, styles, and images so pages load faster and the tools keep working offline. It does not cache your audio files.

This information stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can remove it at any time by clearing site data for pcmdrop.com in your browser settings.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. It records page views and a small number of anonymous events: that files were loaded (and how many), that playback started, and that a download was started (with the file count and the output format chosen). Google also collects standard technical information such as browser type, device type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics uses cookies or similar identifiers to do this. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

We display advertisements served by Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running the site. Please note:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info, or in Europe at www.youronlinechoices.eu.

Other Third-Party Services

  • Hosting: the site is hosted on Google Firebase App Hosting. Like any web host, it processes standard request information, such as your IP address and browser user agent, to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
  • Google Fonts: our typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests it from Google's servers.
  • YouTube videos: embedded tutorial videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Only a preview image is shown at first; the YouTube player does not load until you click play. Once you play a video, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
  • Contact form: the form on our contact page is provided by Google Forms. Anything you submit through it is processed by Google and shared with us.

When You Contact Us

If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, such as a sample file. We use this only to reply to you and to fix the problem you reported. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share your contact details. You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time.

Children's Privacy

PCM Drop is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Choices

  • Block or delete cookies, and clear Local Storage and cached files, through your browser settings.
  • Opt out of personalized ads and Google Analytics using the links above.
  • Ask us to access or delete any correspondence you have sent us.

The tools keep working with cookies blocked. Only your saved preferences will be forgotten.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the site or the services it uses change. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
